I have something to say about this, quite a few things:
1. I am working in casino/poker software development company. We have made a browser based online poker platform (now we are working on downloadable version). We also have complete backend & affiliate solution, highly customisable. We needed 15 months with 6-7 people who are working for gross $2.000, so the costs of building it were about 2000 x 7 x 15 = $210.000
2. Maybe your software is better, but I can give this people some testing accounts and you, on the other hand, haven't provide any (correct me if I am wrong), which is also suspicious. If we want to return our investments than we wouldn't be pricing our software at $210.000, because we don't expect to return all investments in one sale. We are actually not selling it, only renting it with a monthly share of gross net income. But since we have our share in it, we will be there for the customer 24/7 and we will also deliver all upgrades for free.
3. It is crazy to compare a software from FullTilt and PokerStars since they are making like 3-5 Million $ per day, and about 100-$150M monthly. What you don't get is that as soon as anybody that buys your software approach to a number of online players equivalent to 1% of the PokerStars traffic, he will be making more than $1.000.000 per month which makes your software not so expensive. But, getting to 1% of PokerStars traffic is a great effort which can't be achieved in less than 1, 2 ,3 years since we are starting from an empty poker platform here.
4. Also, it is highly unlikely that your software is good as FT or PS since they can afford to have at least 10-20 times more programmers.
5. Why would anybody invest $800.000 and wait for 1-2years to get his investment back, when he can start with a cheaper software now, return his investment of 10-$20.000 in couple of months and then after he makes enough money with "not so amazing" software decide to call you and get that "state of the art" poker platform?
6. The most important things for players are: feeling secure, having trust in company that provides gambling, having payouts in time and then software. If your brand gets players trust than it will be easy to transfer them to a new and better platform. This looks like an advice to start with cheaper software and then upgrade to better later when you have $800.000 to spare, but that will happen when the cheaper software is making you 200-$300.000 per month. My company is taking 20-35% monthly so if we get 40-60.000$ from our client be sure that we will double our programmers that are working on improvements and upgrades.
