GUIDE TO BUYING AN EXISTING CASINO

I noticed more posts from those looking to sell.

For those interested in buying an existing online casino, there is a lot to know.

Frist, it is a business. Profit/Loss should be analyzed. Liability in the form of outstanding invoices and debts absolutely need to be looked at.

On the internet side, here are some important questions:

1) How many players in the database (total)?
2) How many players are active now? This is important because a database of 100,000 players means nothing if they have only 40 active players.
3) Reputation in the industry. Asking about their reputation (you can post here and ask, or at [www.theprescription.com] or at [www.winneronline.com] to see what other players think as well as other industry executives think of the online casino in question). Buying a casino with a good reputation among online players makes it easier to maintain business posture and increase sales. Overcoming a bad reputation requires much more marketing dollars.

The bottom line is this: Those getting into an online casino now and in the past have either succeeded or failed. Those that have succeeded have obtained a large player following and a huge revenue base. These kinds of online operations WILL eventually be bought out by a Las Vegas or other land-based casino operation.

You can also hire a consultant to perform the analysis for you. StartCasino provides that service. E-mail webmaster@startcasino.com if thyat's what you require.

Hope we were able to help.

I concur. In addition:

It also helps to check the status of the url in the search engines. This traffic has the highest profit-per-acquisition of any available, even considering the cost and effort necessary to obtain good standings.

Get the best url you can. Those selling casinos will try and tell you it makes no difference, or offer you no choices, with the unstated fact that you will need to spend more to make up the difference. That is, "UncleBobsChickenEmporiumAndOnlineCasino.Net" will pull in as much traffic as "Casino.Com" -- if you just spend enough on marketing.

"Casino-On-Net.Com" is a poor url. They are successful because of constant effort and millions of dollars in promotion. Do you, as a casino owner, have that kind of money? You'll need it!

I don't want this to be an ad, but I get the feeling that most people in this industry just don't get it. PlayersCasino.Com is available on this board, please consider it if you are in the market for a casino.

Also, if your casino was previously owned, look into how many (if any) existing affiliates there are, and contact them. These are a great potential source of income, and more importantly, of information as they will be more than willing to tell you about the performance and professionalism of the previous owners.

John B,

Its not any problem with the webmaster of StartCasino.com for you to marketing your or anyone else's domain name on this board.

That's what I designed it for. I got tired of seeing consulting firms trying to juice dollars out of entrepreneurs just to allow communication between two parties.

With regards to domain names, there is a writeup on the suject at the bottom of the MARKETING page ( [www.startcasino.com] ).

[www.afternic.com] and [www.greatdomains.com] are the best sites for buying domain names that are owned by others. Some are active sites, others are not. Active sites are generally worth a little more, as they have traffic established.

Lastly, for those of you who happen to run into Mickey Charles ( [www.sportsnetwork.com] ) - I recommend you do the following:

1) Bow
2) Kiss his feet
3) Tell him you WILL buy domain names, despite his advice.
4) Tell him MARC say's "Hi" as well.

Happy domain hunting!

About Costa Rica, they do not require a gamming licence, But do they require a business licence, if so how to obtain one. The US charges $150,000 for a gamming licence but one could go to Costa Rica, which would cost them nothing, then why do business owners pay $150,000. What are some of the pit falls associated with basing a Casino business out of Costa Rica. Your site has been more than helpful, I looked around searching for something like this , but could never find anything. Thanks

Your Welcome

Your Welcome. Yes. Costa Rica's Gaming License (GL) is free, but it also means it is an unregulated area. Antigua's GL is $100K, it is "regulated" (not that that means anything).

These are considerations. There will also probably be a cost from the government with a GL to transfer owners as well.

Another factor in considering buying a sportsbook/casino.
