Kentucky Gambling Domain issue - List of ICANN Non US Registrars

I did some research from the list of ICANN accredited dot com registrars, I was looking at non-USA registrars and also in regions friendly to online gaming.

Kentucky did this as a test. The next wave of domains is in the thousands, if not the tens of thousands. Most are affiliate and information domain sites (yours included).

Many affiliates and owners are now looking for registrars in non-USA countries to add an additional legal hurdle for Kentucky should they succeed next week with the 141 domains.

So, towards that end.... here is a list of accredited registrars (Canada is at the bottom because it is long). I've removed Germany, Japan and some other regions where you would have problems.

I do not believe that using a foreign registrar would make any difference in a case like this. If a court orders a seizure of the domains, then ICANN will enforce that seizure regardless of what country the registrar is located in.

If you are one of the domains targeted by that action, your best bet is to put a geographic block on KY and move on. You probably aren't getting a large chunk of your business from there anyway, and you can always come back later and plant the idea of using proxies.

Agreed. If you are an online gaming operation, blocking Kentucky IP addresses is smart.

But, if you are an affiliate, moving registrars is smarter.

ICANN would not really be involved. The court order would go to the registrar.

I am understanding that quite a few .com names are actually held by UK based registrars, that have informed their clients they have no intention to hand over the domains based upon action in Kentucky alone. The case would need to be brought to the UK jurisdiction to go after the domain. That is highly unlikely.
