Kentucky tries to sieze 141 Online Gambling Domain Names

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear issued a PRESS RELEASE in an attempt to sieze 141 domain names of online gaming sites.

They issued a ORDER OF SIEZURE OF DOMAIN NAMES on September 18, 2008 in the Franklin Circuit court of Kentucky.

This was all done secretly. The Complete List of 141 Domain Names can be seen on page 3.

It includes:

FullTiltPoker.com
TruePoker.com
CakePoker.com
PokerHost.com
UltimateBet.com
BodogLife.com
DoylesRoom.com

....along with others.

The online gambling industry rushed to defend this. A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday).

The strategy was:

1) Get the order
2) Take the judgement to the domain registrars, who would most likely
3) Turn over the domain to the Kentucky Government

According to Gambling 911, another round of domains were to be siezed after this one, which included non-wager taking casino name domains.

This is 'Boss Hogg' from The Dukes of Hazard if I ever saw it.... Dirty Pool.

I was talking to someone about this today who expressed an interesting opinion. It was about the law firm involved. Without getting into the theory discussed, there seems to be more to this than meets the eye. There is the hand behind the curtain argument, and a question as to what the true objectives are, over and above the obvious...and they are probably more financial than legal.

Gambling911 reported that Godaddy handed over serveral domains, including Doyles room. But the DNS is still in control of DBPN (Netherlands Antillies) and resolving with the poker site.

So, Godaddy hasn't handed it over just yet.....
