The financial anti-igaming bill is up for a vote in the house today.

I've got C-SPAN 1 on to keep an eye out. My guess is it will be voted on at about 6-7 PM, like the last one.

Keep in mind this is a US House Vote. If it passes, then it goes before the US Senate - Then the President. So if it passes, its still not law.

If it does pass, though, isn't it inevitable that the Senate and President will then follow suit? What a shame. The government has a chance to step up to plate and provide some regulation that will not only add credibility to the industry, but also generate an untold multitude of revenues. Apparently, the economy is in such good shape that the government can afford to kill the cash cow rather than milk it.

If they're going to outlaw internet gambling, it would be hypocritical then not to ban ALL forms of gambling: Land-based casinos, lotteries, bingo, sports betting, horse racing, dog racing, etc. Then again, hypocrisy reigns supreme with the United States government in virtually everything they do. What a fine example of "democracy" - never mind what the people want, it's what the government wants that counts.

Do you really think that Net casinos that do not have a land-based, brick and mortor presence have much of a voice??? It is whoever has the most lobby power. Who stands the most to lose letting online casinos be??? The land-based casinos. I may be completely off, but that is my .02@#$%&

Actually the land-based casinos have nothing to lose, they are currently not allowed to operate ANY internet casino that accepts bets from US citizens. So if I had to guess I would say they wouldn't lift a finger to help shoot down this bill.

But if I rememeber correctly every year they try to pass this, and every year it is shot down, let's hope it doesn't get the majority vote again...

The Paypal issue is peanuts compared to this. Maybe it's not a death knell for the industry, but I think it spells the beginning of the end for online gambling in the United States. It just goes to prove that our elected officials think they know what's best for its citizens. The Third Reich felt exactly the same way.

Perhaps I overestimated the negative impact of this. The online gaming industry is always at least three steps ahead of the game and I doubt that these bozos in congress are going to be able to stop people from gambling online if that's what they want to do. Where there's a will there's a way. Prohibition of any kind has never, and will never, work. Nonetheless, many of the ideals of Nazi Germany are alive and well within the United States government and that's very disturbing.

our lawmakers at hard work. Can't get a budget passed. Can't save lives voting on a homeland security bill, can't vote on sending planes to IRAQ. But outlawing adults rights to do what they want in the privacy of there own house they decide to come down on.

I guess this is why the US is losing ground to the EU. These anti -growth moves hurts US taxes payers because now they will loose all the internet gaming money. I guess next they will go after the state lotteries (LOL).

It is STILL NOT LAW yet.

Isn't it inevitable that it will become a law, though? If it is enacted will it actually be enforceable? According to the U.S. goverment, internet gambling is ALREADY illegal in the United States, yet U.S. players make up the majority of online gamblers.

I've been through this 5 times now.

Wait until its law. Until then, its not.
