According to the BOSTON GLOBE, MA Governor Deval Patrick is trying to insert legislation to make Gambling online illegal in the state. Proposed fines are $25,000 and 2 years in jail. This is to gamble online. So the consumer here is at risk.

The bill is currently in the house and is not scheduled for a hearing until next year.

Text of the bill includes internet, wireless, mobile and any other equipment for such use.

I'm not entirely surprised that they would make a move to outlaw it. But that penalty is way out of balance. Suppose I get caught playing some $0.02/0.04 poker game. That's barely more than a freeroll. Is it really fair that I should be fined $25,000 and given a couple of years in the clink to think about what I've done? That's not justice, and it does nothing to protect or enhance the lives of the people who live there. This one needs to be voted down.
