How are VIP's treated in online poker rooms and casinos? How is their rake different, awards different, etc.?

Well, you must understand - the difference between a VIP and a regular player is huge.

First of all, in a casino, they have a VIP Manager that deals with them.
They pretty much get any bonus they want - the VIP Manager @#$%& in his pants before he says no because he doesnt want to lose him. The comp ratio is much better. The promotions are more "open handed" for Casino VIP's and the depositing limits on the credit cards or other payment methods will tend to be much better.

In poker its different. The VIPs are issued action points that can be played with instead of having to deposit. They get free entry into tournaments, and they get huge rake-back bonuses on games played/rake made for the casino.
